Canada Cup 2011: Day 1

Canada Cup 2011:

Day 1:

No joke, but I am really excited to share this event’s experience. Friday wasn’t really the tournament, but venue was opened to everybody and there was a Canadian only qualifying tournament to determine who will be the last 3 members to be on team Canada. I didn’t really watch the qualifier mainly because I was in the international money match room. But to be honest, I wasn’t watching any matches or the qualifier, but I was trying to catch up with the people that I haven’t met for a long time.

When the qualifier ended and I found out who were my teammates, I was actually really relieved because those were exactly the players I wanted on my team before the qualifier actually started. (I did an interview stating that too ^^) In the qualifier some of the players were MEH….no comment, just that those are not the players or characters I wanted in the team. Anyways, in case you guys don’t know, the players who qualified are Jozhear (Vega), Snafoo (Dhalsim) and Riceata (Blanka).

After that I forgot what happened, lol…I guess I went to eat because I am always hungry :0. And I think that’s it for the day, real tournament for singles and 5 v 5 international exhibition.

SSF4AE Yun match up list

Kazunoko recently made a Yun match up list vs the rest of the cast after taking the crown at this year’s SBO. Here it is!

The number on the left side is Yun and the right is the character he is facing against:

Blanka        7-3

Dee Jay       7-3
Guy           7-3

Yang          6-4

Evil Ryu    7-3
Oni     7-3

Conclusion…..SO YUN HAS NO BAD MATCH UPS according to Kazunoko. And if you guys don’t know who Kazunoko is, he is currently #1 ranked Yun in Japan.

Season’s Beatings Velocity: Final Day

Final Day:

Sorry for taking so long to update this final part since it was my birthday + Halloween weekend, had to play hard.

Now here I am to share the last part of the event and I left off before the top 32 begins.

Started off getting in the venue and been invited to join multiple teams, but I already made a team with “Sabin” and “PerfectLegend” before the trip. However “Sabin” backed out saying that he doesn’t want to join teams no more and coincidently “Flash Metroid” didn’t have a team so we took him in our team instead. We won our first match then losing the next one to team “Korean Wolf”. We beat Laugh with an advantage of 3 vs 2, but Infiltration OCV us. Now we were put into losers we still managed to fight our way and placed 4th in teams by getting OCV by Tokido and as a result, our team basically lost to Akumas -_-.

Right after we lost the Team USA vs Team World exhibition started, it was pretty entertaining (Team World won by the way)

Then right away Top 32 started and my first match was against a Dhalsim player “Playing to Win”. I of course went to the dark side by using Yang and easily took the game. Then the next match was against Floe’s Yang which is one of Ryu’s hardest match up and I lost my first set of the match. I then thought of using Yang to face a mirror match but I wasn’t confident with Yang mirrors, therefore in the end I stuck with Ryu losing the final set and got eliminated from the tournament. I wasn’t salty/mad/disappointed or anything maybe because I know that there will be a new version coming out or something. Meh, I’ll just try harder next time.

With the remaining time of the event, without a doubt I was watching the whole Top 16 of AE and on top of that I was side betting with Justin Wong throughout the whole thing. I made $ off Justin and also found out that him and Ricky Ortiz do not practice in this game at all…….they only play/practice during tournaments. I think they became my idol after I got that response from the question.

Momochi took the tournament, congratz to him. I took the rest of the time playing casual/MM until the venue closes realizing that it was already 2 am without eating dinner. I went back to the hotel and took a shower then back to the venue (I actually helped packing up at the venue J), then we (all the top players/organizer) went to this Pizza place that opens 24hrs to eat.

Very fun trip/event, count me in next year.

P.S I have been told that my blog not just helped Ryu players but also helped other character users learning the match up against Ryu. Keep supporting :)

Season’s Beatings Velocity: Day 2

Day 2:

Alright, the reason why it took me so long to update this is because I lost all my pictures from this trip, ARGGGGG, all due to the iOS5 update……somehow it backed up everything BUT the freaking pictures…so angry!! Thought I could share it with you all….o well~

Anyways, so let me start telling you guys about this day. Once upon a time, there was an idiot who thought his bracket starts at 10:00 am, so he got up at around 9:00 am, showered, dressed and got himself ready for the tournament. This idiot showed up at the venue around 9:45 am with MacDonald breakfast in his hand figuring out that his pool doesn’t start until 12:00 pm. So I (yes I am the idiot) stuck around the venue, tired doing nothing when I could have been in bed for extra 2 hours…..

Mago entered the venue though his pool doesn’t start until much later, but he woke up at the wrong time due to jetlag. We had some good conversations and some about us back in Japan, blah blah blah, let me keep this shit confidential.

Finally, the time has come! My pool starts!! I beast all the way through winners final facing FlashMetroid and it came down to the final round. It was a really fun match and his Zangief is definitely at a different level and style, one of the hardest Zangief I have ever fought. Let me briefly write down what happened in the last round. We were both at the same amount of life, Zangief had me in the corner and we were at a pause at our safe distance (where I can’t be grabbed and where he can ex Hand my projectile). Then suddenly this faggot just dash in ultra my ass and I thought I reacted fast enough to jump out of it, but I failed L. I still made it out of the pool as loser.

The pool ended around 2ish-3, and there wasn’t much to do, so I spent most of the time playing casuals and MMs until the Good vs Evil of Mvc3 starts. Why am I watching Mvc3? Because CCG|Detrimantix is part of team Evil and I was rooting for his ass!

When the MVC3 exhibition was over, I went for dinner with some people at a Chinese Restaurant besides Momo2 and the food was fairly tasty :). Right after we finished eating, I stuck around the venue to play a little bit more then head to bed make sure I get enough sleep for next day's top 32 qualifier. ZZzzzz

Season’s Beatings Velocity: Day 1

Season’s Beatings Velocity

Day 1:

I actually arrived the night before, so this is actually my day 2, but since I didn’t do shit but sleep and ate at Cane’s the other night so I won’t bother writing about it.

I remember I woke up pretty late..like around 3 PM since today is only Mvc3 day. Once I woke up I went to check out David “CCG|Detrimantix” because I remember him telling me that his pool starts around 2:30. I went into the venue (very nice venue by the way) to look for Dave, and he was playing on the stream. I quickly speed walked to where he is while watching the projector, he lost his first set before I get to him. I sat beside him and said calm down, you still got this no worries…then he told me that this is losers and he got put into losers by “FlashMetroid” therefore if he loses this last set he is eliminated.  I was extremely shocked and cheered for him the second set. David raped his opponent the second set but unluckily he couldn’t take the victory of the last set and got eliminated in the tournament. He was very salty of course, but it’s already a fact that he lost so he just got to accept it. We then and a friend who is a member of “Focus Fire” Gary, who came along with us to eat lunch (breakfast for me) at AppleBee’s!

After enjoying our meal, we headed back to the venue and wanted to get some games in to get used to the ps3 timing. However, there were only a money match setup that was crowded with people, and then two more casual setups that were also flooded with people. I guess I had no choice to watch people money match and luckily I was able to capture a couple of matches.

SUBSCRIBE IF YOU GUYS HAVEN'T

Later on in the night, all the Mvc3 setups were all turned into AE setups and I was pretty happy and hopped on one and played for a few hours of casuals/money matches until I was really tired then I went back to the hotel and sleep. I think I had the ps3 timing down since I barely dropped any combos during casuals and I am prepared for tomorrow’s top 32 qualifier!

Evo 2k11 Trip Final Part:

Evo 2k11:

Final Part

This is the last day of Evo and it’s the matches of top 8 finalists. Once we got up I went to the venue with my friends and a lot of players were many money matches happening at the “Focus Fire” stand. I quickly lined up and hopped on one of the setup for MMs and it suddenly became my own station. I looked around other setups I would see Shiro, Ryan Hart and other players were kind of doing the same thing having their own station. Before I realized people were lining up to money match me. Made some money and once the stand was closed I went to the next hotel called Gold Coast for brunch with my Canadian friends and the food was pretty awesome especially the French onion soup, loves soup!! The first half of the day of Evo is just games like Tekken, MK9, just some games that I am not really into. I wandered around the strip with my friends until Mvc3 of top 8 starts (I don’t play that game but I find it really fun and exciting to watch).

French Onion Soup!! Droolz!

Headed back to the venue, the seats were nicely organized and it seemed like there were more people than the first few days and I am really glad that the community is growing bigger. There were so many people that it wasn’t possible for us to find a seat, therefore I sat on the table where it was located @ the center of the venue and it was where the Japanese streaming the event. I watched every match of Mvc3, it was really hype and entertaining especially when Pr Rog landed the Tron level 3.
Finally SSF4AE started and I wasn’t really expecting much since most of them are rush down characters and a lot of the same characters. I was rooting for Tokido most of the time since he’s using shotos and made it that far. Don’t remember what really happened in most of the matches except Poongko vs Daigo…I have never seen Daigo played so scared and it was so obvious that he didn’t know what to do against Poongko’s Seth. Daigo got exposed really bad…I think if he used Ryu/Ken he could have done much better, at least all he needed to do is guard himself instead of figuring out how to approach him.

When talking about top 8, have to mention about Fuudo’s jab OS into ultra against Poongko, it was god like! I wasn’t amazed that he can jab into OS ultra because it’s something I can do myself, but I was amazed at how he predicted it. He could have done so much other things than an option select ultra…it was just amazing, I was speechless. He is the true champion, congratz! In this tournament, Latif also did a great job against the big names, but I wasn’t happy of how Viper gets so many wake up options….especially her burning kick, it’s totally a free get out jail card. Out of so many characters in the game, why does she have a move that can completely get out of throws and poke strings. Viper with that move has one less thing to worry about, that’s frame trap, and it’s a really big role in this game. I really hope Capcom can do something about that move @@.

This shit is too good!

Overall the top 8 matches weren’t really interesting IMO because there weren’t a lot of footsies/zoning involved (except Fuudo). It was pure mix ups and rush down, it felt like King of fighters for while…the matches were over way too fast for me and I thought SF is suppose to be a slower game @@. However, I also realized one thing; the result was same as last year, #1.Japan, #2.USA and #3.Korea. I hope another countries get on the list next year, especially Canada :P.

@0:40...I only won like $100 and my friend screamed as if I won a million, everybody gathered and came to see wussup -_-...embarassing...

I remember this day people being telling me that they love my blog and they click on it every day. Some people like my Ryu and some loved my DVD. It made me really happy but majority of the people liked my blog > dvd > Ryu..so I guess I have to work harder as a Ryu player instead of a writer -_-. Anyways, this is the end of my Evo trip but it’s not the end of my Vegas trip.

I stayed one more day so that I can relax and enjoy Vegas. We woke up pretty late since we never really had some “real” sleep the past few days. David, my friend and I went to Planet Hollywood for buffet as breakfast (by the time we got there it was 5pm, haahahha). The FOOD WAS EXCELLENT and during the meal, my boss of CCG, “LapChi” texted me and asked me to eat Thai food with him. But David and I were already too full to fit in anymore food, than later on he invited us to watch PeepShow, and I was like…meh…why not? After food we walked around the strip and we went to Coca Cola store (my favorite!), took some pictures with the hugeee coke bear and of course I bought a lot of stuff. Right next to Coca Cola store is the M&M store and we a long while in there as well.

Inside Coca Cola Store
CCG|Detrimantix, CC|Polar Bear, CCG|Air
When we were done shopping, it was time to head for the PeepShow. To be honest I am not really into stripping shows (AND NO I AM NOT GAY) because I can’t touch them! Gootecks was also invited to the show, same with other CCG staffs of course. After the show I went back to the hotel to find my friend (he didn’t want to come to the show) and poor him…lost all his $ within that show time. But yah..that’s it from what I can remember..sleep and next day back to Canada! It was a very memorial trip and I had a lot of fun! Met a lot of people and hope to see you guys next time!

Evo 2k11 Trip Part 3:

Me, Dieminion, Sanford

Evo 2011:

Part 3:

Arrived back to the Rio at around 4:30 pm…it was still a hour and a half before the pool starts again, I hung around the venue for a bit watching other people play, and trying to find out who made it out, but it wasn’t possible because there were way too many pools + players. When the pools ended, the EVO staffs were announcing player names of who goes to which pool/station. The first one they were announcing, I don’t remember who was suppose to be in there, but I was like “alright, this pool doesn’t sound too hard” and yet I wasn’t in that pool. They kept announcing and I was cool with most of the pools until I hear this pool “Poongko, Fchamp, Shiro, Floe….(I remember there were a lot of hard match ups for Ryu…don’t remember the players exactly)” then I was talking to my friend, “HOLY SHIT, ANY POOL BUT THIS POOL!!” and the announcer continues listing the names and when I didn’t hear my name I thought I was safe…but FUCK NO, he went “ANDDDDDDD Air”. Great, I was the last on the list; I was banging my head on the chair and went WTF!! WHY ME!

Anyways, I went to my station and get ready for my matches. I took a glance at the bracket sheet and Floe looked at me and said “Our pool is ridiculous” and I agreed….my first match was against Ramen Addict (Adon) player. I beat him and my next match was supposed to be Mr.SNK and I was pretty confident beating him since it’s a Honda. Then the staff suddenly came up to me and said “Oh, I made a mistake, you were suppose to play “Scott Bender” first”, so then Ramen Addict got another life and I had to start over again, and I ended up losing to Scott Bear’s Sakura. First I wasn’t familiar with the Sakura match up, second I was going over the match up in my mind against Honda and lastly I was under a lot of pressure since I was already put into losers. The matches against Scott were very close, but I totally underperformed or I don’t think I played how I used to play. I played way too safe and backed off after every knock down even though I knew I was safe to do mix ups on Sakura, and not just that, I missed lots and lots of combos, or I should say ALL my combos. I was MAD salty after I lost, all the training I did in Japan (FUCK YEAH, ONLY like 3 match ups in Japan, Yun Yang Fei Long) and how confident I was at this tournament…I was very upset and disappointed the people from Canada who were supporting me. I was so salty that I couldn’t think in my mind, I don’t know how to explain that feeling…it’s like anger with sadness….I was angrier when I know that I am the better player and could’ve won that match.

I saw that Ramen Addict made it hella far because he was playing Shiro (Shiro was at the side of the bracket),I like how he got another chance when he already lost. I forgot what happened after, I remembered that I went to eat with the CCG staffs then went back to the venue and watched some of the matches…then I forgot. There were still a lot of people who came up to me to ask for pictures and autographs also asking how I did, it wasn’t a great feeling and I am sure the pictures I took with them weren’t great.  I think I went to the money match room after the venue was closed, but the room was filled with people, moreover it was stinking hot, I didn’t stayed for too long and after that I went out to the strip with my friend and gambled for a bit then we went back to the hotel and slept.

MM Room

The next day was just Marvel, no point of me being there, I was at the venue for a little bit then off to the strip with some friends and walked around + gambled. I went back to the venue because I wanted to see how my team mate David “CCG|Detrixmantix” is doing at Marvel, and I couldn’t find him. However, my manager “Troy” told me that he got top 16? and I was very proud of him! I went to the MM room again, I stayed longer but it had more players than last night. I stayed until the room was closed and headed back down, after a short walk I saw a lot of people were drinking at the bar. Mago was super drunk, he and other people lifted me outside from the fence inside the bar and everybody was going crazy (in a good way), it was a good feeling, everybody was having fun, even though that I can’t drink I had a great time chilling at the bar with them and meeting some new people. I forgot what happened after…I think I went to eat or something? Again I went to gamble with my friend (he played another game because he didn’t like the game I was playing), so I kept playing (game was called PAIGOW POKER). While I was gambling, people (gamers) were watching from behind…..it felt really uncomfortable because it wasn’t street fighter that I was playing…they didn’t say anything but I kept on winning my hands and one guy who introduced himself (sorry that I forgot your name) and said “you should make a guide/dvd of how to play this game” -___-…..I mean there’s like 10% skills and 90% luck, I am sure there’s nothing that can help you win in casino table games. I stopped when I made about a hundred, went to check out my friend, I think he lost quite a bit…but we went back to the room together and I played some mini games on my iphone before I went to bed.

David "CCG|Detrimantix" Perras
These paragraphs are not really EVO related, but I am going to write it anyways. I think as a player myself, I’ve been underestimating the competition in NA or maybe over confident during tournaments. In casuals it’s different; I can play my best, not representing anything but myself and no pressure. I do take the game seriously, but life wouldn’t let me do so due to work, gf, families and FUCKING BILLS. Especially my job, working in a restaurant that starts at 4 pm and ends at 1-2 midnight, leaving me no extra time to practice games. However, since I win almost 95% of my matches online (Even though online is laggy as fuck), so I thought making a trip to Japan will greatly benefit me. Therefore, like I mentioned in my blog before that I took two weeks off work to train in Japan and I mean I got a lot out of the trip, but I mean, this game is really based on how well you know about the match ups (Daigo vs Poongko was a really good example) and yet, Yun and Yang were the most characters that I played against in Japan and there were none in my pools. Anyways, just last minute training was totally not enough, I can be honest and say that I never practiced when AE was released due to poor netcode. Besides these reasons, I think the main reason of me losing or not performing well is the fact of how I think during tournaments. When I lose a round or a set, I would think “how to beat him” instead of “why/how did I lost”. For example, let say I am leading about 30% in life when my opponent has like 5% left or a pixel, whatever, then I try to attempt a throw, then OK, he did some wake up reversal into Ultra n then I lost. So after I lost that round I would probably say to myself “ok, if this situation comes up again, I will do an overhead or whatever that’s not a throw”. Alright I win but I mean that probably only works against that opponent because I read him or adapted to his game play or I should say I was trying to be too smart and gambled and this is an example of “How to beat him”.

What if I put it this way, same example “leading, and attempted to land an attack and got reversal attacked and lost that round” and then I should ask myself this “Why/how did I lost? Hmmm, because I tried to do something on his wake up which was really risky, I should just back off and be safe and hold my lead”. With this logic it will work against any opponents because YOU ARE learning your mistakes from your experience instead of playing too smart to outplay your opponents because it might not work on the next opponent because everybody plays differently. (Those were just some obvious examples, I don’t play like that :P) I mean even though if you know that you can beat that player, in a tournament you should give full respect and treat him like the best player in the world or something. After a lost, being salty is important because that means you take the game seriously and that’s how you get better naturally, but not TOO SALTY that you forgot your mistake and asking yourself this question “WHY/HOW DID I LOST”. I mean when I lost to Scott Bear I just couldn’t or didn’t think right, first I was just trying to blame everything to the staff, but after when I was calmed and asked myself the question “Why did I lost” then I remembered the main reason was that I didn’t apply pressure on his wake up and let him up for free everytime.

I think I am still very young in this scene, started since Canada Cup, so less than a year, I have much more to learn and hopefully with the “why did I lose” point of view I can improve faster and do better in the future. I’ve been so serious about gaming since EVO that I actually quit my job and found a new one with “normal” hours. I also been creating gathering events in my local scene just so that I can practice offline (online is a complete joke..not that I don’t want to play, it’s the fact that I couldn’t play), I also try to help other players in my scene in order to help them improve faster and build up the competition.

Blah blah blah, I realized I spent so much time in these last few paragraphs that I am already tired of typing, so the next part of Evo post will be the Last part, stay tuned!

Evo 2k11 Trip Part 2:

Evo 2011

Part 2:

I woke up 2 hours before my pool starts, and I was all hyped and stuff. My friend also got up and we head down to the venue together. On the way to the venue I was asked for pictures and autographs (should have charged!) until I reached to the line up where we get our badges. I forgot who exactly but by the time it was my turn to get my badge somebody told me that I don’t even need one to enter the venue…and I remember CLEARLY that whoever told me was somewhere in the line with me #%@#%#$^#^! However, I still took the badge, I didn’t want to line up for nothing…..anyways..I entered the venue and I was overwhelmed by the amount of people and how organized the venue looked. Aside from the venue, what caught my eye was this decent Asian chick who was handing out tissues?...I think she was pretty cute (if you are the girl and you are reading this, wussup, lol). I don’t think my girlfriend will read this post or at least I hope she doesn’t @@....

Venue
While I was looking for my pool (I totally forgot which one I was in so I had to ask around to find out) and like every major tournaments, it’s never on time :/…so I used the time to check out the venue and talked to other players. During the free time I did multiple of interviews (sorry that I forgot your company’s name….) I remember this interview these guys made me said weird things on the camera -_-…but it was fun.

Finally my pool started, I took a glace of the players in my pool, there weren’t any familiar faces until Hugo101 came up to me and told me that he was in my pool. I was like meh…Bison is one of my best match up, I got this, I can make out of my pool as a winner. I fought all the way to winners final facing Hugo, like usual, I was up a set and a round, and in the end I choked and he came all the way back and I got put into losers…..You guys can’t imagine how salty I looked when I lost to him..I didn’t expect to lose to him especially when Bison is one of my best matchup..O God…then I began to worry that I can’t even make it out of my pool. At losers final I think I had to fight a Chun Li which I didn’t have problem beating, and as a result, I made it out of my pool as a loser. LOSERRRRRR, FUCKKK.

I started to lose confident (I was so confident that I can do well at EVO….) and I little bit salty, but I just had to forget about it and went to fill my stomach. However, since the next pool doesn’t start till 6pm, I had almost 6 hours to spare, I went to walk around (gamble) @ the strip with my friend. God damn it was hot and we couldn’t wait to walk in to some casino for A/C. We wanted to try variety of games that BC don’t have, and our plan was to win $50 off each casino. Since I am writing this post after a week of what happened, so I don’t remember the scenes exactly but the memorable ones and it was me winning over $300 within 15 mins at Flamingo casino in a game called “Mississippi Stud”. I was SUPER happy that I totally forgot about getting put into losers at EVO, lol.

It was about 5:30 pm, we took the cab and headed back to the Rio and back to my battlefield…..

Women's Meaning

I found this picture when I was digging through my phone’s photos and I found it very funny so I wanted to share with you guys. I took this picture when I was training in Japan and this was written on the board @ the living room.

Women ‘s meaning

We need = I want
Maybe= No
Do what you want = You gonna regret it
We gotta talk = I wanna complain
I just need 1 minute = It takes forever
No, I’m not angry = Fuck you, asshole
You gotta learn how to communicate = You gotta learn to share my opinion
He’s ok, but not really my type = I wanna fuck him so hard!

I found these 80% true, LOL. Whoever is unhappy or already happy, hopefully this will make you cheer up or have a good laugh.

Evo 2k11 Trip Part 1:

Evo 2011

Part 1:

I am trying to remember my days while I am writing this..too much things happened on this trip and one thing I remember for sure is that THIS TRIP WAS A BLAST! I HAD SOOO MUCH FUN even though I didn’t perform too well at Evo L, but met lots of people and a lot of familiar faces, it was like a huge party J.
I remember clearly that Day 1 when I got off the flight, walked into the Rio, already a lot of gamers recognized me and I felt special J.

My friend from Vancouver also came along (though he plays SF, but he does not compete in tournaments. He was there just there to chill with the Vancouver crew + gambling who does not want his name revealed), lined up to check in for our room and then we bumped into our Vancouver crew. All of us were pretty hungry so we stopped lining up and went for some food right next to the reception, and they had a Chinese food court and a Deli. I don’t know why my friend chose the Chinese food…it was pretty tasteless in my opinion…o well.

Back to the lineup for checking  in and I think it took over 30 minutes until it was our turn, moreover, it took us OVER an hour to get our room checked in/registered because the receptionist told us that they had to do it manually due to computer broke down or some bullshit. Anyways…they gave us a free upgrade to a SUITE so I was like….hmm….alright I’ll take it!

We got to our room, and holy shit there was only 1 big fucking bed! ONE BED! 3 GUYS (Detrimantix, me and my friend), how the heck are we going to sleep and hell no I will sleep with a guy especially when there are rumors of me being GAY according to this resource à http://supastew.blogspot.com/. (And yah….both of them didn’t mind being in the same bed btw…) Thank god we called for the hotel service and we were able to get another 2 small beds in our room.

I took a quick shower so did my friend (and NO we did not take it together) and we were ready for some action (gambling). People recognized me when I was gambling as well and I was very surprised. I mean I am not @ some place where SF was related, I didn’t have my uniform, but I guess when you are living at the same hotel it’s not hard to tell.

We played all kinds of table games and at this game called “Three Card Poker” I hit a straight flush which was the biggest bonus @ this game and I bet $5 on the bonus so I got $200! I was extremely happy because all I had for this trip was $300 and now I have some extra cash to spend. It was sure my lucky day and I was smart enough to stop playing before I lose them all. Since my pool starts in the morning I didn’t want to stay up too late in case I have no energy to compete tomorrow, therefore I went back to my room and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
